Sports Massage is an extremely popular service we offer here at Prima, but what are the benefits of a Sports Massage?
One reason we use Sports Massage is the prevention of injury, a tight muscle can be a weak muscle and therefore prone to injury. For instance, distance running can create repetitive force through lower limb muscles causing them to tighten, which in turn shortens the muscles themselves. Our job is to manually stretch these muscles through deep tissue massage or other therapeutic techniques to ensure the body is prepared for the inevitable repetitive force.
Another benefit of Sports Massage is a simple one, to relieve pain. Be it neck, shoulders, lower back, or calves, we also suffer tightness and soreness in these areas. This can be brought on by either long periods of sitting, muscle soreness from a previous workout, or other conditions such as post-operative procedures or injuries.
Here at Prima, the aim is to alleviate the pain in these areas, improve the range of motion and prevent injury as mentioned above. Sports Massage is also fantastic for relaxation, we don’t need to cause pain in the muscle to help it relax. The deep tissue techniques we use affect the Lymphatic System which can be very beneficial for the body increasing levels of relaxation and reduce physical and psychological stress levels.
